Member Resources Available on myASA Member Portal

The African Studies Association launched our new member portal in early 2016. As all of our members know, this new portal has made it possible to register for membership and the Annual Meeting, update profiles, and more. The ASA is working on expanding this member portal to highlight resources accessible to our members.

If you have visited the member portal recently, you may have noticed a few new features. All ASA members receive online access to our full archive of African Studies Review, History in Africa, and past ASA publications such as Africana Newsletter, African Issues, ASA News, and ASA Review of Books. ASA members can access these archives from the member portal, by selecting ASA Journals in the Member Menu. The latest issues of African Studies Review and History in Africa are available online now for your reading. The Forum on Surveillance in Africa in the September issue of ASR can be complimented with African Studies Review’s first virtual issue, Security, Surveillance, and Globalized Conflict in Africa. Virtual issues bring together articles from past issues of African Studies Review to review specific themes and topics in more depth. Security, Surveillance, and Globalized Conflict in Africa is ASR’s first virtual issue, and will be followed by others. The ASA hopes these virtual issues will be a resource to our members in their research and teaching. If you have any ideas or requests of thematic virtual issues, please share them with the ASA by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Members can now select Member Resources in the Member Menu to access information about employment opportunities, fellowships and grants, conferences and CFPs, teaching and professional resources, advocacy, primary sources and databases, and more. The ASA has put together resources in each of these categories that our members may find useful, and welcomes suggestions for additional resources from our members and other individuals and organizations. Job announcements, conference advertisements, and more can be submitted to the ASA for posting in the member resources section through this form.

The ASA is looking to be a better resource for our members, and welcome your feedback about this new feature. If you have any suggestions or requests, please send them to the ASA at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
