2014 Women's Caucus Lecture

The 2014 ASA Women's Caucus Luncheon and Lecture will be held at the 57th Annual Meeting of the African Studies Association in Indianapolis, on Saturday November 22nd 2014 at 12:00PM to 1:15PM. This year's speaker is Professor Micere Githae Mũgo who will lecture on the topic Women Embracing Creativity and Utu as Tools to Combat Violence and Find Healing. 

Professor Mũgo is Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence and Professor of African American Studies at Syracuse University. She is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Distinguished Africanist Award from the New York African Studies Association for her contribution to scholarship. In November 2002 The East African Standard Century listed her among “The Top 100: They Influenced Kenya Most During the 20th Century.”

Professor Mũgo has earned recognition as an accomplished poet, writer, scholar and activist on the African continent, in the diaspora and around the world. Her recent publications include Writing and Speaking from the Heart of My Mind and Art (2012), Artists and the Flowering of Pan-Africana Liberated Zones (2013).
