In 1988 the Bylaws were rewritten to conform to Delaware law. Prior to that point, the Bylaws contained the following description of the Elections Committee: An Elections Committee shall be appointed each year by the Executive Secretary, subject to the approval of the President. The Committee shall consist of three members, including the Executive Secretary as Chair. In the Spring of 1995 the Board approved the following guidelines: 2. The Board will invite the three (3) persons to serve and provide them with copies of the Election Committee guidelines. The Executive Director will also be a member of the committee. 3. When the Elections Committee convenes, a minimum of three (3) members is required for the election count to proceed. All convening members will be present during the counting of the ballots. The ballots will be sorted for each contest; one member of the committee will count the votes for each candidate, with the other members serving as overseers. 4. At the conclusion of the count, the tally for all contests will be recorded and signed by each member of the co mmittee. This tally will be kept in the permanent files of the ASA. 5. The ballots will be sealed and kept for two years; a copy of the signed tally sheet will be taped over the seal. 6. Candidates and the Board shall be notified of the results and the count in writing immediately after the tally is completed. 7. The results of the election will be announced to the membership at the Annual Business Meeting and the results and tally will be published in the following ASA News . 8. Challenges to the election results mus t be addressed to the President in writing by a candidate within seventy-five (75) days after the Annual Business Meeting. Challenges will be reviewed within thirty (30) days of filing by the Executive Committee. | |
