Africa and the African Diaspora: Past, Present, Future

The African Studies Association sponsors an Annual Meeting, which provides an occasion for panels, plenary sessions and discussion groups, exhibits, and films. Participants from America, Africa, Asia and Europe gather for this meeting, which is held in different regions of North America, in cooperation with major colleges, universities and museums. With an average attendance of 2,000, the Annual Meeting has grown into one of the largest annual gatherings of Africanists in the world. Highlights of the Annual Meeting include the Abiola Lecture, the Presidential Address, and a distinguished speaker hosted by the Women's Caucus.

Past meetings were held in Chicago, IL (1998), Philadelphia, PA (1999), Nashville, TN (2000), Houston, TX (2001), Washington, DC (2002), Boston, MA (2003), New Orleans, LA (2004), Washington DC (2005), San Francisco, CA (2006), New York, NY (2007), Chicago, IL (2008) and New Orleans, LA (2009).
