PRE-REGISTRATION RATES

            All Annual Meeting attendees are encouraged to pre-register. The registration fee will increase substantially onsite in San Francisco. Individuals who reside in Africa and who have difficulty obtaining foreign exchange may request authorization to pay pre-registration rates upon arrival in San Francisco; all requests must be in writing, and postmarked on or before September 30, 2006.

            To pre-register, visit the ASA website, www.africanstudies.org  and click on the ‘Membership’ link to find a form that can be downloaded from the website, or click on the ‘ASA ONLINE’ link on the website to register and pay by check or credit card online.

UPDATING MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

            Update your address and personal information online by logging on at www.africanstudies.org and clicking on ASA ONLINE. This is the FASTEST way to correct your contact information. When you update your personal record online, you automatically update the ASA database.

 

REGISTRATION DESK

            Identification badges and registration materials may be picked up at the registration counters. The registration counters will be open as follows:

REFUND POLICY

During the Fall 2004 Meeting the ASA Board of Directors adopted the policy that the ASA will no longer issue pre-registration refunds of any kind. In Winter 2006, the policy was amended to issue pre-registration refunds to individuals with declined proposals. Fees are not transferable.

 

LETTERS OF INVITATION

            The ASA can provide a Letter of Invitation to assist individuals in expediting visas and securing funding. Requests for a Letter of Invitation should be made online at www.africanstudies.org  or by sending an email to asaamc@rci.rutgers.edu with “Annual Meeting Letter of Invitation” in the subject line. Please note: a request requires 4-6 weeks to process. A request for a Letter of Invitation that is received after September 30 will incur a $25 administrative fee and the individual will pay the cost of any express courier that is requested.

 

COORDINATE ORGANIZATION MEETINGS

            The deadline for Coordinate Organization meeting requests was April 30, 2006. Meeting requests are no longer being accepted at this time. For more information, please contact the Secretariat at asaamc@rci.rutgers.edu or at 732-932-8173 ext. 15. Requests for meeting space will not be accepted onsite in San Francisco.

 

EXHIBIT HALL

            The Exhibit Hall consists of publishers, producers, and vendors of Africa-related books, educational materials and other items. Only ASA registered individuals may enter the exhibit area. Anyone who is interested in exhibiting may contact the ASA Secretariat by e-mail at asaamc@rci.rutgers.edu with “Exhibit Hall” in the subject line, or at 732-932-8173 ext. 15.

AFRICAN FILM AND VIDEO PROGRAM

Annual Meeting participants will be able to view upon request the latest documentaries, feature films, and shorts from and about Africa at the Video Marketplace in the Exhibit Hall. Available titles will be listed in the Final Program.

 

JOB REGISTRY

            ASA members seeking employment and institutions seeking candidates for positions may register for the job registry. Placement forms are available on the ASA website: www.africanstudies.org. Placement forms may also be obtained by contacting the Secretariat at asapub@rci.rutgers.edu with “Job Registry” in the subject line, or at 732-932-8173 ext. 16.

 

MESSAGE BOARDS

Bulletin boards will be available for registrants wishing to contact colleagues who are attending the Annual Meeting. The message boards will be located in the Exhibit Hall. Registrants are also encouraged to check the boards for updated Annual Meeting information.

 

PRESS OFFICE

Each year the ASA makes an office available for members of the media who wish to highlight current research and developments in Africa. The Press Office will be located at the Westin St. Francis Hotel.
