Ruth Murambadoro

Ruth Murambadoro is a Junior Researcher at the Centre for the Study of Governance Innovation (GovInn), University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Prior to joining GovInn, Ruth was an assistant lecturer in the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria. She completed her masters in Political Sciences with distinction in 2014 at the University of Pretoria. Her thesis examined the politicisation of reconciliation in Zimbabwe using a case study of the Nkayi District, in Matabeleland North Province. She received her honors degree in international relations and a bachelor of political sciences degree from the same university in 2012 and 2010, respectively. She also holds postgraduate certificates in conflict management, political psychology, post-conflict transitions, and international justice from the International Peace and Security Institute (IPSI) and the Central European University. She attended study exchange programs studying at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, Clingendael, the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Bologna Center, Italy and the Central European University, Budapest, in 2012, 2013 and 2015, respectively.

Ruth is a young scholar whose work has been recognised by the African Studies Association, USA and the African Studies Centre, Leiden. She received the African Studies Association Presidential Fellowship in 2015 and was shortlisted for the Africa Thesis Award in the same year. She is also a recipient of the African Pathways NIHSS-CODESRIA and the Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa doctoral fellowships.

Ruth is currently pursuing her PhD in Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria, supervised by Dr Cori Wielenga and Prof Alois Mlambo. Her PhD study is examining tradition-based transitional justice and reconciliation processes among local communities in Zimbabwe. Ruth is interested in transitional justice, reconciliation, social cohesion, democracy, post-conflict recovery and political psychology of conflict stricken communities in Africa.
